Heroes, heavyweights, upstarts and startups
A look back over a year in the life of Stanford Engineering in the 2010-2011 Annual Report.
Stanford engineers continued to push the boundaries of the possible in the 2010-2011 school year. Highlights included:
Heroes: The school established a program to recognize its most distinguished, choosing eight for the inaugural group of Stanford Engineering Heroes.
Heavyweights: Stanford Engineering's established faculty are building their reputations by tackling pressing global problems in such areas as human health and safety, environment and energy.
Upstarts: Younger faculty challenged long-held assumptions about wireless, offered a glimpse into the future of social computing and built molecules that may one day help diagnose and attack diseased cells.
Startups: The entrepreneurial spirit remains strong among the school's grads.
