As a D1 varsity athlete looking to balance rowing, academics and other interests, the Stanford Student Space Initiative (SSI) was a warm and welcoming group that offered me the opportunity to do something new and completely different.
The Rockets team in SSI has opened my eyes to all of the interesting applications a background in materials science could have in the aerospace industry. I’ve recently become aware of the growth of privatized space companies. The development of these companies means rapid iteration in this field and a whole new world of building and design work. I’m a sophomore, so I’m not cementing any plans about the future just yet, but maybe I’ll head in that direction one day …
